Northampton - Full Gate Replacement

The Brief

The existing external gate at a listed building in Northampton had reached the end of its serviceable life and required replacement.

Due to the heritage status of the property, the works needed to be carefully considered to ensure the new gate was sympathetic to the character of the building and surrounding area, while also providing a secure, practical and durable solution for the client.

The client required a contractor who could manage the full process, including design, listed building consent, manufacture and installation, while keeping disruption to the building and its occupants to a minimum.

Our Solution

T&D Design and Build delivered the full replacement gate package from design through to completion:

Carried out an initial site survey to assess the existing gate, opening sizes, fixing points, surrounding masonry and access requirements.

Prepared a suitable replacement gate design that was in keeping with the listed building and appropriate for the setting.

Managed the listed building consent process, including preparing and submitting the required design information and supporting documentation.

Liaised with the relevant parties throughout the approval process to ensure the proposed works met the required heritage and planning expectations.

Arranged manufacture of the replacement gate in line withthe approved design.

Carefully removed the existing gate and prepared the opening ready for the new installation.

Installed the new gate securely, ensuring correct alignment,operation and fixing back to the existing structure.

Completed the installation out of hours to minimise disruption to the building, occupants and day-to-day operations.

Left the working area clean, safe and ready for use on completion.

The project delivered a high-quality replacement gate that improved security and usability while remaining sympathetic to the listed building.
